Always-On

By default, an AppX app sleeps when it sits idle and wakes in a few seconds the next time you open the preview. Always-On keeps your app warm around the clock so there's never a wake wait.

What Always-On Does

With Always-On enabled, your app:

  • Never sleeps — no few-second wake-up the first time someone opens it.
  • Previews instantly — Expo Go connects immediately.
  • Keeps its link live — a shared preview link is always ready to open.

Who Gets It

Always-On is included on the Premium ($50/mo) and Pro ($100/mo) plans. There's no separate daily charge — it's part of the plan.

When to Turn It On

Always-On is worth it when a wake delay would be awkward:

  • The app you're demoing to clients or investors.
  • A beta your testers open throughout the day and expect to be instant.
  • A link you've shared with non-technical stakeholders who shouldn't have to think about "warming up."

For an app you only check occasionally, normal sleep-and-wake is perfectly fine — it wakes in seconds.

Turning It On

Enable Always-On from your project's settings in the AppX workspace. It takes effect immediately, and you can turn it off again at any time.

tip

On Free and Starter, sleeping isn't something to worry about during normal building — your app wakes the moment you open the preview. Always-On is about keeping it warm for other people opening your link when you're not around.
